Visible Mending with Craft Habit Raleigh

In this world obsessed with the cycle of consumerism, slow fashion is more important than ever. Reduce your impact on the environment (and on your wallet!) by mending items you already own. We’ll teach you mending skills that you can use to fix up vintage finds and to keep the items in your closet in good condition for years to come.

But don’t keep your mending a secret, make it a design feature by learning the art of visible mending! You’ll learn embroidery and Japanese boro stitching techniques to mend, reinforce, and add visual impact to your existing wardrobe. This includes basic hand-sewing techniques, how to create stitch patterns, and how to properly and beautifully reinforce clothing.

Bring a damaged item you’d like to repair or just something you’d like to embellish and we’ll work on it in class! We’ll provide a needle, thread and a variety of patches made from upcycled fabrics and handwoven textiles from Indonesia. Other supplies like rulers, water soluble markers, chalk pencils and additional patches will be available during class time and as optional purchase at the end of class.

Thursday May 2 from 6:30-8:30

Registration coming soon!
